A Sharing Weekend

Little known fact: I was a hairdresser for exactly one minute.

This week I gave 2E a hair cut for the first time in the 5 years we have been together. Weird right? I don't know why that was the first time except maybe that he usually cuts his own hair. I think he looks adorable!

See you next week!

Featured Items of The {Last 2} Weeks

How beautiful is that modern credenza below. Very Mad Men. I want to take it home!

2E shot a picture of the dresser, above, for me on his iPhone when he was out scouting for the shop. It was jammed tight in a thrift store and had seen better days so it wasn't making a real splash. I loved it and agreed we should snatch it up quick.

A few layers of lacquer and a couple weeks of work and it is singing a new tune.

n'ice cream

For the first time in years I have been craving ice cream. Last week it was chocolate, this week pistachio. When I was little going out for ice cream was always an event but back then my favorite flavor was gumball. Oh the horror!

Emerald Cut Rug Repro

A few months back a client brought in her inspiration folder of design ideas. She was in to buy a pair of pillows but when I spied this Domino Magazine page with the KWID Emerald Cut rug the conversation turned to flooring. She was dying to buy it but with a retail price of $70 - $110 per sq ft it wasn't in the budget. I was in the process of designing Empiric's new line of rugs so I faxed a drawing and spec's on to the rep I was working with and discovered we could get the rug done for a fraction of the price. Just $24/sq ft!!!!!

It just arrived and I think you'll agree it looks great. I am delivering it next week and I can't wait to see her reaction! I hope she loves it too.

Featured Items of The Week

More goodies unveiled in the showroom this week including the great pedestal side table, below.

Beautiful in its original condition but not getting any attention at the store we decided to refinish it in a simple two tone lacquer.

I absolutely love how it turned out and how, in its neutral colors, would be perfect in any decor. I personally want it to replace the side table in my living room but unfortunately it is a wee bit high. But lovely none the less. Get inspired!

One of my very best girlfriends is arriving in just a few hours so I will be calling it a day and seeing ya'll next week. xoxo

A Blossoming Weekend

I dont know about ya'll but I am ready for the weekend. These past few days have knocked the wind out of my sails and I would like nothing more than to recoup under the big gorgeous LA blue skies, take in some live music at the Hollywood Bowl, and catch up with friends at a sunset bbq. All on the calendar.... what awaits you this weekend? If you are in LA, do yourself a favor and stop by LA Fashion Bloom, a temporary fashion boutique, at Taylor de Cordoba. It is a buffet of beautiful things!

Heather asked Empiric to contribute with a few accessories so I had the privilege of working with some very talented merchandisers and the outcome was beyond belief. These photos were taken just prior to finishing the installations but already it looked amazing. The finished product absolutely dazzled as did the gorgeous crowd.

In Heathers words LA Fashion Bloom is her blog come to life and I can't find words to describe it better. Every piece from these talented designers (of fashion, jewelry, and hand bags) was singing my name.

Back next week.

My Rugs!!!

It is with endless amounts of excitement and enthusiasm that I introduce to you our first line of rugs!!!!

The two year process was at times exhausting but always exciting and fun. It was endlessly harder than I imagined to find truly unique patterns with which to use but once these started to take shape everything began to flow.

Both patterns were inspired by vintage prints from our catalog. Sometimes the best inspiration is right under your nose!

Available in custom sizes and colors exclusively at Empiric.

Empiric Brass Dining Chairs

I am so smitten with these chairs! We started making the Empiric dining chair in brass about a year ago but to date they have all been custom jobs for clients. After deciding on how to refinish the Mt Airy dining table I featured recently I jumped into action getting 6 of them upholstered to set it up in the showroom.

I chose Schumacher's little known Katmandu Graphite for the front and back and a complimentary chocolate leather for the seat. The pattern is so beautiful and detailed up close I am surprised that I dont see it more in the design world.

I have one more Empiric related post this week and I can not tell you how excited I am to share it with you! Stay tuned....

A Wonderful Weekend

I had to share pictures of our anniversary weekend at the Casa Del Mar in Santa Monica. It was too lovely not to!

I thought I had died and gone to heaven under the beams of the ceiling and the glow of the sun.

Milo approved.

The suite felt more like a bungalow than a hotel room with very personal touches such as shelves of books and ocean keepsakes.

I am day dreaming about curling up on the chaise and spending the afternoon reading some of their library.

The view out to the pier was a nice surprise...

2e planned to propose to me on this ferris wheel but I was being a brat that day. Instead he popped the question on the beach, coincidentally almost directly out front of our weekend suite.

my resort collection...

boys at play....

.......and the happy couple

I would give my eye teeth to be back there right now......

Balustrade and Bitters

I made mention in Fridays post of the new website Balistrade and Bitters but I wanted to elaborate on one of the interesting articles this new resource offers. Self proclaimed as an "online symposium featuring details of forgotten gems, new finds, and in depth profiles of intersting people and spaces" they have done a beautiful job of organizing their site and inviting visitors in.

Upon clicking on the proprietors link I was surprised to see a dealer we work with quite often, Robert Snaith. Empiric customers will surely recognize one of the items featured in the gallery from our showroom last year.

This Mao propagonda tapestry was one of two we purchased from Snaith, the other below.

He also specializes in a few categories such as taxidermy, medical accessories, and one of a kind precious objects from his buying trips back to his hometown of London, England. A must shop dealer if you run into him at the Santa Monica swap meet or Alameda flea mart on Sundays.

Ballistrade & Bitters also highlights Interiors, Architecture, Dining, Events, and the always popular, Cocktail Hour. I'm a big fan of Coles, the bar/restaurant they most recently dished on, so I look forward to more recommendations to come!

Married on the 5th of July

My Grandfathers boat, The Bufflehead

This weekend marks the one year anniversary for 2e and I. Wow, a year so soon. I will dedicate an entire post to what these past 12 months have brought us and for now just wish you all a happy 4th of July! Here's what you may have missed if your week was as full as mine;

Balustrade and Bitters launches with a very 1stDibs layout and some good content

Vena Cava khaki available at the GAP for a limited time.

Watermelon Basil Margaritas. I die.

We are staying here in town but my loyal, loving husband has some very special things in the works. Can't wait to get the party started (with some of those margaritas)!

Featured Items of the Week

The bar cart had a long journey to get where he is today (which is actually already at a clients home) but the transformation was astounding!

This before photo was taken with a phone so the quality isn't helping its case but it truly was in a sad state of affairs. Coated in layers of thick white paint and with only one working wheel it was a little shabby chic cozy cottage.

So you can imagine my surprise when our re-finisher peeled off the paint to reveal this fine young thang. A combination of brass and steel and working wheels! We also replaced the glass shelves with mirror to give it some sparkle and depth.

All in all an amazing change and a fun, unique conversation piece for a home or office bar.
