This week I'll be spending my free time interviewing potential candidates for the open position at Empiric (over 100 resumes received. Wowza!).

Will return to my regular scheduled posts next week.
Wish me luck with the employee search!

Featured Items of The Week

As we crawl into fall the store is transforming into a cozy nest of leathers, steel, and the soft glow of lamps as the sun sets a wee bit sooner.

I absolutely love the beautiful pair of yellow lamps above. The suede banded buckle detail and wood base lend them a little Ralph Lauren equestrian flair.

I'm equally crazy about this pair of rare black ceramic table lamps. The cutout bases are silk lined and illuminate!

Magnifique!

Fashion on 1stdibs

The day after an awards show its hard not to have fashion on the brain. I'll leave the red carpet play back to the fashion bloggers out there and instead share some gorgeous vintage glam I ran across on 1stdibs. Beginning with this strapless number...

Victor Costa 1980's Flirty Rauched Floral Cocktail Dress

Everything great about the eighties all sewn up with a hot pink bow. I love the shape, texture, and those cupcake sweet colors. It makes me want to put the brakes on fall!

Fox Trimmed 1960s Afternoon Suit

But thankfully blue fur exists to bring me back around. This one is for the drama queen in us. I don't know what an Afternoon Suit is or where one would have worn it but it's fabulous!

Bill Blass Sexy Vintage Polka Dot Dress

Romance. In a nutshell. This is Oscar red carpet worthy! Taking a mental peak through past purchases that I never wore and eventually re-gifted I realize I have a thing for red and white polka dots but they unfortunately do not have a thing for me.

A few sophisticated accessories....
Unique Stehen Jones feathered Headpiece

Crystal Rhinestone Cocktail Ring

and some extraordinary nautical bling.....

Hermes Gold Tone Anchor Alarm Clock

all available via Vintage Haute Couture Fashion on 1stdibs

Friday Crossroads

This will be a weekend of playing catch up. I am hoping to find time to catch a movie, eat at Cecconi's, hang out with Milo, and cook some good food. I'll report back on Monday.

Before & After: Showroom

Browsing through old photos of the store is a favorite past time. Whenever I feel as though we are becoming too influenced by trends I refer to them and try to restore the values that make us so unique. Below are a couple photos of the showroom in 2002 followed by a modern day image from the same vantage point.

Iron Work

Recently I have been admiring interior railings. When 2e and I were in Mexico City last February there was gorgeous iron work all over the city that caught our eye and got us talking.

The detail in some of the buildings is nothing short of amazing The Bradbury Building, above, is a famous LA landmark that I have visited on occasion. You may recognize it from the final scene in 500 Days of Summer.

We have already started using these details in our work. Most recently in our line of rugs with this elevator grill pattern designed in 1893 for the Stock Exchange Building in Chicago.

More Boston: The Library Sconce

Empiric began carrying the Boston Library Sconce in recent months and the more I look at it the more I love. And I swear, it isn't because they are named after a city so close to my heart.. :)

They would also be gorgeous mounted above the headboard in a bedroom. Available in Antiqued Brass and Bronze for $325 ea.

Boston In The Fall

Just back from a weekend on the east coast that was nothing short of spectacular.

I inhaled all of Boston's charm while still finding time to relax, catch up and laugh for days. My stomach muscles still hurt.

I'm suffering some jet lag so I'll be back tomorrow after some much needed z'sss.

A Spirited Weekend: The Home Bar

When I was rearranging our furniture last week I switched out the bookcase that doubled as our bar for the long storage credenza. I wanted to move the bar out into the living area anyway so this just gave me a little push to find the right piece.

Space was a factor in me choosing this new metal dresser but its 30" width sealed the deal. The drawers house the majority of our bar accessories and the bottles of booze are on high shelves in the kitchen but a few special pieces were left out on display.

look reallll close, our very subtle monogrammed elephant napkins

a tiny blown glass nip perched in our captains mirror

My absolute favorite bar accessory is our silver Ralph Lauren wine cradle. A hostess gift from fellow wino's, The Wilsons. I can't find any info on this piece so I imagine it was discontinued but I treasure it.

This weekend I have put aside some time to let go of work and travel to see friends. A long overdue adventure....... Bottoms up!
