Bling!

I am ordering new lighting for the shop today and came across this bedazzler appropriately named Bling. With the exception of my wedding rings I usually stick to more earthy bling but sometimes I dream of a girly room all me own to lay around in feather slippers, sipping champagne and burping up bubbles. Not burps but actually blowing bubbles from my belly. I would invite my cat, Gorgeous Georgii, and Whitney Port, my girl crush du jour. In this fanatsy I look like Robin Wright Penn circa Forest Gump but I dance like Usher. I kinda feel like a chandelier dripping with misshapen glass beads could really get this sort of party started.

Well, whatever your idea of bling is, I hope you have a weekend chock full o fit.

Girls Justa Wanna Have Fu-un

My time with May and Michelle in Palm Springs was short but super duper sweet. We rolled into town on a Thursday in the late afternoon and didn't waste a minute getting into our swim suits and toasting to the good life. The Viceroy is not the best place to stay in Palm Springs but their special rates (only available for a few more days...) made it THE BEST place to stay. I loved the sunshine, the champagne, the shopping, and adventure. Most of all, more than anything, I loved having that time with two really special people in my life. We had to rush back to LA but I have no doubt this weekend will be revisited over the years. It is such an easy escape for me and a fantasy destination for all so hopefully, just maybe, my girls far far away will come west more often for martinis under the orange trees and lazy days without a care in the world and absolutely nothing to do.....

Michelle, apparently I also love your boob :)

Thank you both. I love you to pieces and needed you more than you know! Well, maybe after the Britney Spears "impression" you do know. Wink-Wink.

Empiric Today

The store has been a flurry of activity and sales this week. Thanks to all our great customers for being so loyal. Pictures of my Palm Springs weekend with the girls tomorrow (finally!).

The Jane Series

Just one of my beautiful, sweet cousins.

I stole these from her Facebook page :)

The last one I have posted before but its worthy of an encore.

What Happened To Monday.....

I have the day off and I can't think of much else I want to do beyond drinking coffee and laying around in bed. My head is a little fuzzy after a late night wine and Bachelor binge so forgive me while I recharge my batteries and catch up on all your Monday posts.... Back in a bit!

Hot Toddies For Two

(*)

Friday so soon?! This weekend we are planning to stick around town, hibernate and catch up on the Oscar picks. It is raining in LA which is the perfect excuse to chill out and rest up. I have to work Saturday but what I really wish we were doing is heading up to the mountains to ski.

See you Monday..

Take A Cue

I am in love with the absurdity of this get up. Don't you wish more men would be adventurous (and thoughtful) with their wardrobe?

The First Day of The Rest of Our Lives

I wish I was able to see more of the inauguration today but I had to work. We went to dinner after and the city seemed alive with excitement. I can only imagine how the east coast was ringing in the change!! I miss the political energy of Boston but this election even brought LA to it's feet (in some less practical footwear but engaged none the less). I, personally, am going to use this as an excuse to wipe the slate clean and start fresh myself. A new New Year's if you will. 2009 has gotten off to a slightly rough start....

What is everyone doing to celebrate tonight?? I highly recommend Obamiconing yourself (your pets, your remote control....). Curiously, the more wine you have the more fun (and creative) it is. How did we ever amuse ourselves before the internet?

Black Man. White House.

The most important color trend...

Today is a glorious day!

The Ruby Door

My beautiful friend Tracey Weiss has the charming shop, The Ruby Door, in Boston’s Beacon Hill. If any of you are familiar with the store than you know already what a treasure it is! A gem as special as the gem's she peddles.

"Special things are for everyone and are to be enjoyed and loved. Jewelry is to be worn, every day and in every situation, and it shouldn’t define a woman, but should light her up and bring out her inherent beauty. It should make her feel fabulous"

In addition to jewelry you will also find supple leather hand bags, scarves, and as of last spring, home accessories; all chosen with the same care that she uses with her jewelry.

Brides and husbands will be intrigued to find out that The Ruby Door also offers custom pieces for those special occasions when run of the mill just won't do! My Bostonian blog friends be sure to say hello for me next time you pop in.

Sweet Lucy, chillin'

Crazy About Copper

Last copper piece (this week). I promise!!

Vintage Steel and Copper Ashtray, Stripped and Refinished. Available at Empiric, $385

Copper

This picture from Erica's blog post last week alerted me to the fact that Kitchenaid is offering a copper version of their mixer. It is simply gorgeous. If you've been reading than you are aware of my new obsession so this shouldn't come as news.

I googled copper appliances and uncovered a treasure trove. The toaster above is great too. But it didn't stop there...

A copper blender would complete the counter top trifecta nicely. I also came across refrigerators, wall tiles, sinks, oh; and this gem..

Espresso Machine

We considered putting an espresso machine down at the Washington Blvd store when we were remodeling a few years back but nixed the idea. It is more 2e's dream than mine but I will happily reap the benefits.

Foot Loose

Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from Matthew Harding on Vimeo.

I don't know about you guys but around this time every day I need a little pick me up. Some days it is coffee, others some down time with tea and Oprah but today I'm on the go, at the store and need to keep on my feet. So today, I think I'll dance!

2009 Golden Globe Favorites

Last year's strike left us high and dry and this is by far my favorite of the awards shows. I was hard pressed to find a dress I really loved last night but these ladies pulled off classic and elegant and made it look easy.

** My favorite acceptance speech(es) of the night were Kate Winslet's. She was so sweet it made me cry a little each time she took the stage. I love real people in this city.**

I also really loved Laura Dern's vintage inspired, Betty Draperesque gown but, alas, could not find a good photo of her from the red carpet.

A Home I Love

I have a stack of magazines from here to Cabo. They weigh heavy on my conscience and are an eyesore in our pad. With all the talk of resolutions hanging in the air I had an idea. Rather than an open ended 365 day promise to myself to resolve (one of the many) issues in my life I would have occasional weekly resolutions with a deadline of Sunday night. I work well under pressure and tend to procrastinate to my own benefit so this just feels right. Tangible. The first of these weekly resolutions is to tackle the stack(s) and remember why I am keeping these precious issues to begin with. Luckily for me this task just got a teensy bit easier.

Alkemie posted photos of one of my favorite interiors this week. One that I remember as a source of color inspiration and a quick pick me up. It sits somewhere in my ever growing pile of catalogs, doing me tons of good! Wink wink. Take a peak if you haven't already and breath in the perfect balance of quality classics, gorgeous travertine, well done trends, and overall good design. I am envious!

These are my people and I have the goods to prove it. For starters, she is blonde and I am blonde!!! They know how to swim and I used to swim competitively!! Okay, um, they live in Socal, we live in Socal. They are not afraid of color or mixing different eras which avoids pigeon holing their space and instead makes it fresh and unique. They just look like a goog team! Sure they had a designer do all of this for them but they love the vision and had the final approval on things so their taste is clearly in line with his. Don't believe me yet? I'll pull out the big guns.

All of the items on the right are from Empiric. The similarities are undeniable, if I do say so myself. I could add to this for days but I have to run! This last room also has a look reminiscent to the store but more more obviously it screams Hollister Hovey, no?

Hollister's Living Room for House Beautiful.

This place will get me through my weekend magazine purge. I need to start living in the moment, in the reality of my existence and stop the magazine insanity once and for all! I hope you are inspired to do something out of the ordinary this weekend too. We'll touch base Monday...
